Report to Governor & General Assembly due Nov. 30, 2021 (Chapter 584, Acts of 2021).

In June 2021, the Work Group on Adaptive Reuse of Vacant Commercial Spaces was authorized by the General Assembly (Chapter 584, Acts of 2021).

To increase the availability of affordable housing in Maryland, the Work Group is to examine the feasibility of converting vacant or underused commercial spaces into housing or mixed-use residential/commercial spaces. Further, the Work Group is to research similar programs in other states, and identify funding sources developers could access for such programs. Finally, the Work Group will consider whether legislation is necessary to facilitate conversion of vacant commercial spaces into affordable housing.

Authorization for the Work Group ends June 30, 2022.
