In May 2021, the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission was authorized by the General Assembly (Chapter 356, Acts of 2021).

The Commission reviews applications for sports wagering licenses, and awards Class A-1 and A-2 facility licenses to large video lottery operators and specified major sports franchises in the State. The Commission also awards Class B-1 and B-2 facility licenses to certain qualified horse-racing, simulcast betting and commercial bingo entities. In addition, the Commission may award up to sixty mobile sports wagering licenses.

Authorization for the Commission ends January 1, 2028.
